Stegner Fellow Reading with Rabia Saeed and Christell Victoria Roach

The Creative Writing Program is pleased to announce a reading with Stegner Fellows in Fiction and Poetry: Rabia Saeed and Christell Victoria Roach.

Rabia Saeed is from Kohat, Pakistan and a Stegner Fellow in Fiction at Stanford University. She was a finalist for the Editor's Prize in Prose for Meridian, the winner of the 2020 Harvey Swados Fiction Prize, and the 2021 James W. Foley Award. Until recently, she taught Creative Writing at University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

Christell Victoria Roach is a writer born and raised in Miami, Florida. She earned her MFA in Creative Writing at the University of Miami after graduating from Emory University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Creative Writing & African American Studies. She writes the Blues of the Southern Tropics. Christell places her poetry in conversation with Black artists and scholars when she describes her writing as "critically fabulist wake-work rooted in the demonic--" after Saidiya Hartman, Christina Sharpe, and Katherine McKittrick respectively. This means her work places value in emotional truth, erotic freedom, and the spiritual reclamation of personal and shared histories. Christell is a poet and playwright, but she sees research as comprehensive storytelling. Her recent work has been published by the Academy of American Poets, POETRY Magazine, Obsidian Literary Journal, Scalawag Magazine, The Miami Rail, and SWIMM Magazine. She is currently working on her first book of poetry entitled, "Bluesing."
