This Fall, please join us for The Poetics of Memory, a Poet's House series hosted by Brittany Perham.

A poem often begins with memory's spark and vision--a half-recalled song from childhood, the smell of a familiar ocean, a few words overheard in a crowded room. How we capture that memory on the page--and the imaginative work we do to make a poem--will be the guiding topics we investigate together. We will consider memory in relationship to content (childhood, family, place, sensation) and to form (the way we pattern language to reveal thought and emotion). We will also consider what the act of remembering feels like, and the profound effect this act can have on our work and our lives.

Our final session is Childhood Memory: Image, Sensation, & the Imagination. Students will encounter published poems and do several low-stakes writing activities. No creative writing experience is necessary.
